McMurry University seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach. This position is responsible for the organization, direction, and administration of all aspects of the men’s and women’s cross‑country programs in a manner that supports the mission and values of the university and is in full compliance with NCAA DivisionIII, conference, and institutional guidelines. Responsibilities Recruiting: Identifies prospective student‑athletes qualified for admission to McMurry University; effectively communicates with prospective student‑athletes; and coordinates recruitment efforts for the cross‑country program with McMurry’s Office of Admissions. Coaching/Student‑Athlete Experience: Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to develop sport skills and strategies; promotes student‑athlete welfare and provides appropriate mentoring to student‑athletes and the assistant coach in a Christ‑centered setting; assists the Head Coach for Track & Field in addition to head coaching responsibilities for cross‑country student athletes. Program Administration: Operates within all University, Conference, and NCAA III guidelines; schedules practices; maintains inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies; carries out team travel according to established policies and procedures; and effectively communicates within the Department and with the university community on matters pertaining to the cross‑country and track programs. Supervision: Identifies, hires, trains, and evaluates the assistant coach, ensuring that the assistant coach adheres to all University, Conference and NCAA III guidelines; position reports to the director of athletics. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Ability to recruit outstanding student‑athletes to a strong academic environment with a Christian mission. Experience coaching cross country at the college level or significant experience coaching at the high school or club level, or equivalent, or collegiate playing experience. Ability to effectively teach and coach student‑athletes in a Christ‑centered setting. A commitment to being a positive role model and leader to the team as well as an excellent communicator. Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays the University, its programs, personnel, and philosophies.
