Electrical Controls Designer

Position Overview

As an Electrical Controls Designer, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical control systems for a variety of projects. You will work closely with our team of engineers and technicians to ensure that our clients' needs are met and projects are completed on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare construction documents such as loop drawings, location drawings, cable reports, and I/O lists under the guidance of senior staff, using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite to produce accurate and consistent deliverables.
• Learn and apply Building Information Modeling (BIM) protocols to stay aligned with evolving technology and industry best practices.
• Contribute to control network design documentation, including functional descriptions and specifications for Quality Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, and Distributed Control Systems.
• Support the development of piping and instrumentation diagrams and instrumentation/control valve specifications while strengthening design skills.
• Travel to client sites to collect field data, document existing conditions, and support new equipment start-up, building practical field experience.
• Assist in preparing project proposals and estimates, gaining insight into project planning and budgeting.
• Work with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate project details and develop strong collaboration skills that lead to successful client outcomes.
• Collaborate with engineers and drafters to contribute to a wide range of industrial projects, from new facilities to small upgrades, while expanding technical knowledge.

Design and develop electrical control systems for various projects, including but not limited to industrial machinery, automation systems, and process control systems

Create detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or other design software

Select appropriate components and materials for control systems based on project requirements

Collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure that designs meet technical and functional specifications

Conduct testing and troubleshooting of control systems to ensure proper functionality and performance

Provide technical support and guidance to project teams throughout the design and implementation process

Keep up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in electrical control systems to continuously improve design processes and techniques

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical controls design

Proficiency in AutoCAD or other design software

Strong knowledge of electrical control systems and components

Experience with PLC programming and HMI design

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Willingness to travel to client sites as needed
